Hollywood Producer Will Packer and his wife Heather Hayslett share their August wedding joy –and how ESSENCE brought them together.
Will Packer, a magma cum laude graduate of Florida A&M University, visited Orlando, FL on Friday, September 25 for a fireside chat at the 2015 National Black MBA Association’s Annual National Conference moderated by actress Nicole Ari Parker.
Will Packer is known for producing movies featuring African American characters, including the hit Ride Along and Think Like a Man franchises. Eva Longoria is producing two series with Latino protagonists, Devious Maids and NBC’s upcoming Hot & Bothered, in which she stars. Now Packer and Longoria have teamed for Bonita & Mechelle, a multi-camera comedy for NBC, which centers on two women, one Hispanic and one African American. The women find themselves living together while conquering the ups and downs of single life and parenting.
Will Packer Productions continues its push in the hourlong arena this season with Under Her Thumb. The drama, created by Alison McDonald (Red Band Society, American Dad!), has sold to NBC with a put pilot commitment. Universal TV, where Packer recently renewed his overall deal, is the studio. Written by McDonald, Under Her Thumb is described as “Glengarry Glen Ross meets The Real Housewives” and as a campy cautionary tale set in the morally bankrupt world of high-end New York City real estate. McDonald and Packer executive produce, Will Packer Prods. head of TV Korin D. Huggins co-executive produces.

James F. Lopez has been named Head of Motion Pictures for Will Packer Productions. In the position he will be responsible for developing and overseeing production on all film projects through the company’s first look deal with Universal Pictures. “James is a knowledgeable passionate executive who knows how to get things done. We are extremely fortunate to have someone of his pedigree in our ranks,” says Will Packer, Producer and Founder of Will Packer Productions.
The comedy from Will Packer and showrunner DJ Nash will now be called ‘Truth Be Told.’ Ahead of its Oct. 16 premiere, NBC has changed the title for its freshman comedy People Are Talking, the half-hour series starring Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Tone Bell.
‘Buckhead’ marks the prolific producer’s first sale of the season. The show is described as a drama about ambition, sex and revenge set in the extravagant, high-stakes world of Atlanta politics, entertainment, churches and strip clubs.
Will Packer is putting down his roots at Universal Television. The film and television producer has inked a new two-year overall deal to keep his Will Packer Productions banner at the studio through 2017.
