The network on Friday handed out a series order to its African-American-led remake of Uncle Buck, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. The comedy was written by Steven Cragg and Brian Bradley (Happy Endings), who exec produce alongside Will Packer and his Will Packer Productions topper Korin Huggins as well as Phil Traill. The series is a co-production between ABC Studios and Universal Television, with the latter’s Universal Pictures owning the rights to the movie.

The order for NBC’s pickup of “People Are Talking,” a multi-cam comedy starring Mark-Paul Gosselaar happened today. “Talking” is about two diverse couples who are neighbors and best friends. The “Saved by the Bell” alum will star with Meaghan Rath, Tone Bell and Bresha Webb. The multi-cam project was written by D.J. Nash who exec produces with Will Packer and “How I Met Your Mother’s” Pam Fryman who directed the pilot.

Roots, a remake of one of the most celebrated TV programs of all time, blockbuster 1977 miniseries Roots, is a go at History, which has been developing the project for over a year. The new event series is being made into a big A+E Networks affair, with History, A&E and Lifetime all set to simulcast it. Prolific feature producer Will Packer (Ride Along, Think Like A Man), who is making a major foray into TV, has come on board as executive producer.
